Review for Ultimate Escape (Amnesia)
Upon entering the room it did have the feel of a doctor’s office. Once the time started it did take a while to start to find the first clues. Once one clue was found it did lead to other clues. Overall the clues did seem to build on each other. The intro and scenario are given by a TV monitor in the room, which was really the only high tech feature in the room, the room was overall pretty low tech. There were lots of clues to help solve the scenario, but some of the clues meant absolutely nothing and sometimes resulted in trail an error to figure out the clues to use. The room was attempted with 5 people; while it was a little cramped I thought that having a few more people might have helped with the scenario. We were not able to escape before the time ran out.
Review for Breakout Arlington (Hostage)
My first impression of the Breakout is the location is nice, although hard to find as the location is inside the Parks Mall. We didn’t even get to start our scenario until about 15 minutes after our appointment time, so it was a little disorganized. There was very little briefing before the game started and very little direction as to what could and couldn’t be used as clues. The first impression of the room is that it is a fairly small room that is supposed to resemble a small apartment or jail cell. There are plenty of clues to help solve the scenario, the sheer number of them makes it almost impossible to know which ones to use and which ones are just dummy clues. The clues do seem to build on each other if you know how to interpret them. Once you get close to the end the clues did seem to more straightforward and quicker to discover/decipher. We were able to get out in the specified time frame.
Review for EscapeXperience (Lock Me If You Can)
This scenario is based on being locked in a jail cell and you have an hour to get out. I thought the aesthetics of the room were basic and props were minimal, although it did have the feel of a jail cell. The clues were minimal and there was no real direction as to what to do with certain clues once obtained. The whole scenario was done with 10 people and I thought that was a tad too many people. I think it would have been perfect with 8 people. Some of the puzzles were needlessly hard especially with no direction given. We were unable to escape before time ran out.
Review for Twisted Key Escape Room (CSI)
This scenario was trying to find out who committed a murder. This was the very first escape room I visited, so I didn’t know what quite to expect. This room was attempted with four people, which is not enough for this particular scenario. Overall the room was a decent size and had lots of props, which made it difficult to know what was actually going to be used to find clues and complete the scenario. While some clues were fairly straight forward other clues were given with no context and which made them extremely difficult to understand or interpret. While the clues did build on each other there were entirely too many to be able to solve in the time frame. While it might have been easier with more people I’m not sure it would have been solvable in the time frame. We were not able to beat the scenario in the time frame provided.
Review for Sector Escape Room (Terrorist Apartment)
This scenario was you have to defuse a bomb before the time expires. Upon arriving in the scenario I thought the décor and props fit what an apartment would actually look like. This room was attempted with eight people which was the right amount of people for the scenario. Overall I thought the clues to solve the scenario were strategically placed and seemed adequate to move your progress along. While most clues did seem to be fairly obvious there were others that weren’t so clear, but overall didn’t take away from the flow of the room or detract from the overall experience. We were able to solve the scenario in the time frame provided.
